Caroline Garcia and John Isner tops the 2022 WTA and ATP Ace Leaders rankings respectively
Top Ace hitter: John Isner and Caroline Garcia
Ace is the hallmark of tennis sport, a lightning beauty that cannot be matched on the tennis court. This year too tennis players used the power of aces to score points over their opponents.
The 2022 WTA Finals champion Caroline Garcia, is top on the leaderboard for the WTA Ace Leaders for 2022. She aced 394 times on the court in different tournaments played throughout the season. This counts both the WTA tournaments and Grand Slams.
Interestingly, she had not even ranked in the Top 10 in the past three years. She was No.19 in 2019, No.21 in 2020, and No.21 in 2021. But this time she beat everyone. Wimbledon 2022 champion Elena Rybakina is second on the list with 370 aces.
The rest fall behind. Aryna Sabalenka and Maria Sakkari have tied on the number of aces- 249. However, the Belarusian has hit them in 55 matches compared to the Greek who hit the same number of aces in 63 matches. Interestingly, veteran Petra Kvitova is in the Top 10 but World No.1 Iga Swiatek is absent.
John Isner tops the 2022 ATP Ace Leaders rankings
The tall and strong John Isner is known for his aces. Hence, this year too, unsurprisingly, the American has ranked ahead all in the ATP Ace Leaders for 2022 List. John Isner has hit 895 aces throughout the year in different tournaments played. This counts both the ATP tournaments and Grand Slams. To everyone’s surprise, though, Davis Cup 2022 champion Felix Auger-Aliassime is just behind the American with 890 aces. Polish player Hubert Hurkacz takes the third spot with 827 aces. He is followed by Maxime Cressy and Nick Kyrgios with 768 and 747 aces respectively.
Their contemporaries Stefanos Tsitsipas and Daniil Medvedev are also on the list with 8th and 9th ranks. The Greek hit 628 aces while the Russians hit 590 aces. However, World No.1 Carlos Alcaraz is not included in the Top 10. Also, neither Rafael Nadal nor Novak Djokovic has made it to the Top 10.
John Isner also tops the ATP’s All-time Ace Leaders List. These are the players ranked since 1991, when the counting of the number of aces began. He has hit 13,990 aces in his career. These rankings include some big names such as 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer, Andy Roddick, and Pete Sampras. The Swiss legend has hit 11,478 aces throughout his career and is ranked No.3 on the list.
