French tennis player Caroline Garcia revealed that she was disappointed with the outcome of her match against Iga Swiatek. The former World No. 4 faced World No. 2 Swiatek in the China Open quarterfinal in Beijing. While happy that she played some of her best tennis, she admitted that she was still disappointed with the outcome.

The Frenchwoman had come dangerously close to a victory, winning the first set in an exhilarating tiebreaker. However, surprisingly enough, in the next set, Iga Swiatek won it under the same conditions. In the third set, the Pole showed that she had the better hand on the day of the match by dominating and winning the third set.

In an interview with L’Equipe, the current World No.10 revealed how happy she is with her match against Iga and that she got the opportunity to compete against one of the current best tennis professionals. “I am happy with my match and with my performance. It’s been a long time since I had an opportunity to play a girl who is one of the best in the world,” she said. (H/T: We love tennis)

While Garcia had a very disappointing 2021 season where her rankings dropped out of the top 70 and she completed the season as World No. 74, the tennis professional was able to buck up and improve her performance. This re-instilled in her the rank of World No. 4 in the 2022 season. However, due to this unfortunate turn of events, the French player has not been able to play against top players till now.

“I am progressing well. But obviously, I am disappointed not to come out with victory after having delivered such a match and having come so close to victory,” she said. While it was evident that she was pretty happy with her top-notch performance in the quarterfinal of the WTA 1000 event, she definitely hoped for a win in the match against the former World No. 1. With that being said, there is no denying that Carolina is on her way to a ground-breaking recovery from her loss of form.

“The match was obviously very intense; when we play the best, it’s not the same as on the rest of the circuit. There is a part of me that is happy and proud of the performance,” she said. That’s not all; she further admitted that it was a good thing for her team to know that she still had what it took to play a good game against the best players in the world.

Nevertheless, the match between Caroline Garcia and the former World No. 1 was a sight to behold. A stellar example of world-class tennis, it was the best exhibit to display to emphasize the level of tennis being played on the Tour.
