French tennis player Caroline Garcia suffered a disappointing defeat at the hands of Wang Yafan in her first-round match of the ongoing US Open 2023. Following the match, she did not attend the post-match conference, and the reason for her absence was later revealed. Caroline Garcia let the world know through a social media post that she lost her Grandmother on Monday and that she was withdrawing from the doubles event of the US Open as well.

She lost to Wang Yafan 6-4, 6-1 in straight sets in the first round and that was very shocking for the fans as they obviously expect much more from the Frenchwoman. “Hello everyone. These last two days have been very difficult for our family. My grandmother left us on Monday afternoon. I couldn’t present myself to the press yesterday after my defeat, the emotions were too great,” Garcia wrote in her tweet, finally revealing the reason of her shock defeat.

“My heart needs to be close to my loved ones to say a last goodbye to my grandmother, which is why I will not be able to present myself in doubles with Kristina in this tournament. There is a time for everything in life. Tennis today is secondary. Thank you for your understanding, Caroline,” she added.

Caroline Garcia recently got to know about the life of former Ashleigh Barty by reading her recently released autobiography and got really inspired by her struggles. She even took to Twitter to congratulate Barty on her autobiography and give her a shoutout.

“Thank you @ashbarty for sharing your tennis life. Being so honest and open about the struggles and great successes you went through. An inspiration. Miss to see you around mate,” Garcia wrote in her tweet.

Garcia’s last three outings have not been that pleasant. She suffered a round-of-32 exit from both the Canadian Open and Cincinnati Masters and reached the round-of-16 of the Citi Open. In the 2023 Wimbledon Open, she could reach only the 3rd round, and thus, it is evident that there has been a gradual fall in her performance.
