After making a winning return to the tour in the Canadian Open first round, former World No.1 Caroline Wozniacki sends out her praises and credits for Serena Williams and Elina Svitolina for inspiring her in the comeback. Both of the stars have pioneered the way of coming back to the tour after becoming a mother in the past years.

During the first-round post-match interview, Wozniacki said, “It’s great to see them(Serena Williams and Elina Svitolina) come back & play well. It’s definitely a motivation for a mom to think ‘If they can do it, you can do it too.’ We have a lot of moms on Tour now. I’m very excited for this chapter.

The Danish 33-year-old will face the reigning Wimbledon champion and Russia’s top seed Marketa Vondrousova in the second round of the Canadian Open. Considering the great crowd support Wozniacki received during her opener, it will be interesting to see how she can fuel her old engine against an in-form stronger opponent in the second round.

The new mother on tour, Caroline Wozniacki, hit her career peak so far in the late 2017 and early 2018 seasons. During this phase, she was able to capture two of her greatest trophies in the cabinet- the ATP Tour final in 2017 and the Australian Open title in 2018. But post that, she was in a declining phase before she decided to take a break due to pregnancy. But interestingly, she became the World No. 1 in a whole different phase – it was in October 2010.

It will be tough battles ahead for the Danish veteran in the coming months as the young blood is going strong in the circuit. The game is played on a different level now, where the physical abilities are measured more in-depth than what it was a decade ago. Wozniacki had her battles fought out against the greatest of the stars, including the likes of Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, and Justine Henin.

The Danish star always had her crowd backup, and this was super evident when she stepped onto the court in the tournament opener. How she could handle the younger opponents in the coming months will be a question that time can answer and the tennis world is excited to be on that journey.
