Danish star Caroline Wozniacki has come back to the tour in style. She dispatched Australian unseeded player Kimberly Birrell in straight sets of the Canadian Open first round: 6-2, 6-2. The former Grand Slam champion is coming back to the Tour for the first time in three years after becoming a mother. She was welcomed to the packed stadium by standing ovations.

Wozniacki gave her speech after the initial round win, in which she said, “It feels great. It’s my first match back in over 3 years. I was definitely a little rusty. But what an amazing place to come back. I have amazing memories here. The fans are the best. Thank you for coming & supporting me.”

Wozniacki was absolutely thrilled to be back on Tour as she gave her wholesome thankful message to the fans after the first round win. She also spoke about the influence of Serena Williams and Elina Svitolina, who both came back on the Tour after becoming a mother.

In an illustrious career so far, former World No.1 Caroline Wozniacki won her first and only Grand Slam in the Australian Open 2018. Being ranked as number 1 as early as in 2010, she continued to be a strong force until she took a break due to pregnancy. She played her best tennis in 2017-2018 when she won the ATP finals in 2017 and then the Australian Open in 2018.

The love for the Danish star is still so strong as fans could see from the warm reception she received in the opening round of the Canadian Open. Though the first round was an easy match-up for the Danish, the next round is going to be difficult. The current Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova awaits her there.
