Casper Ruud was assigned Court 17 for his first round at the ongoing US Open. This was done despite the fact that the Norwegian was the runner-up in the previous edition of the Grand Slam.

Fans feel Rudd, who has been the runner-up in a total of 3 Grand Slam titles out of the 7 he played since 2022, was ‘outcasted’ and his last year’s performance was ignored. The 24-year-old went head-to-head against the 2022 US Open winner, Carlos Alcaraz, giving the Spaniard a tough fight. He had lost the finals with a score of 4-6, 6-2, 6-7, 3-6 over four sets.

Social media reacts to Casper Ruud being assigned Court 17 at US Open
Court 17 at the Arthur Ashe Stadium is not popular amongst the fans. It is nicknamed ‘The Pit’ as the playing surface lies 8 feet below sea level. The court is widely believed to be one of the smaller courts at the stadium. This is a common misunderstanding since it is the fourth largest court that has a seating capacity of 3,000 people.
On the social media site X (formerly Twitter), fans expressed their disappointment with Court 17 being assigned to Ruud. Many claimed that Ruud is being discriminated against despite being the World No. 5 and the runner-up last year. Others argued that the court was better than the other ones.
