The appreciation Rafael Nadal has received for his competitiveness and class on the tennis court is massive. However, there are things that annoy the crowd and his opponents, too, at times. He has a list of superstitions, which he calls routines—many of them odd—that he does before or during all of his matches.

Well, what’s amusing is that the routine is not only restricted to tennis. He does the same in golf too. One of the top tennis players currently, Casper Ruud, revealed all the things that the Spaniard does before a swing.

In the video, Ruud can be seen with a golf stick in his hand, vividly describing the Spaniard and his movements. Ruud mentions, “I have played with Rafa twice before. He shot under-par both of them. If he watches this I am going to have it from him because his swing is so awful. But he makes it work somehow.”

Following that, the Norwegian went on to describe the entire routine.

He started by revealing that Nadal starts by pulling his shirt from both shoulders. He then wipes the sweat off his face. Then he stands in a queer-looking open stance. The Spaniard then takes a huge backlift and stops. Finally, he swings through.

Ruud concluded by saying, “He has a lot of strange routines. Even in Golf.” His description shows how the routine is not restricted to tennis. Probably, the he has one for every sport Nadal plays. The Spaniard is a massive soccer fan, and probably has a routine in place while playing that as well.

After showing remarkable consistency and making multiple finals on tour, Casper Ruud looks ready to lift his first Grand Slam title. He was one step away from doing it on three separate occasions previously. After losses in this and last year’s French Open final and last year’s Wimbledon final, Ruud will be eyeing redemption.

For him, the challenge will be the same as any other player. The very fact is that he will have to adjust from the high and bouncy clay to the low and skiddy grass. The Norwegian isn’t playing any warm-up event apart from the Giorgio Armani Tennis Classic. It seems like he is confident in his skill set and is sure of having a deep run in London.

Can he go a step further and finally win his first Gran Slam? He’ll endure tough competiton from Holger Rune, Carlos Alcaraz, and Novak Djokovic. However, one can back the Norwegian to beat them if he plays high-quality tennis.
