Casper Ruud found himself on the losing side of the French Open final once again on Sunday. The fourth seed was defeated by Novak Djokovic in straight sets, who claimed a historic 23rd Grand Slam title. Casper Ruud suffered his second straight defeat in the finals of the French Open, as he was defeated by Rafael Nadal in straight sets last year.

Casper Ruud heaped praise on Novak Djokovic in his post-match speech, as he was left stunned by the number of Grand Slams he had already won. The fourth seed started the match on a bright note, getting a break early, and having an opportunity to serve for the first set. However, it all went downhill from there, as Novak Djokovic’s brilliance forced the opening set into a tiebreaker, which he eventually won comfortably.

Novak Djokovic entered the finals as the certain favorite to claim his 23rd Grand Slam title. However, many backed Casper Ruud to at least give the Serbian a run for his money. However, that was not the case, as the world number one wrapped up the match in straight sets.

Casper Ruud heaped praise on Novak Djokovic’s ability to read the game. He stated that the Serbian inspires his peers, given his long list of achievements. “Novak is just not human sometimes. It’s scary how good he can play, how well he reads the game, how much he works for every point.. 23 slams is a ridiculous number. It’s inspiring to see how much someone can achieve in their career,” said Ruud.

Casper Ruud should certainly be proud of his effort at the 2023 French Open. He has played some extraordinary tennis to finish as the runner-up in Paris for a second year in the running. He defeated Holger Rune in the quarterfinals in four sets and completely outplayed a resurgent Alexander Zverev in the semifinals in straight sets.
