Casper Ruud makes history to win Norway’s most prestigious award following his 2022 season

Casper Ruud

Casper Ruud had a brilliant season. He won 3 ATP singles titles and played in the final of 2 majors- the French Open and the US Open. He also played in the final of the 2022 ATP Finals finishing runner-up to Novak Djokovic. His performances all around the year helped him to finish the year as World No.3 in the ATP rankings.

Ruud had been earlier called a clay-court bully but he quashed the tag this year. While he failed to win any title at non-claycourt events, the Norwegian did manage to reach the finals of three big hardcourt events. He was the runner-up at the 2022 Miami Masters and then in the US Open and the ATP Finals.

The expectations from Casper Ruud in the 2023 season will be much greater than compared to the 2022 season. He came very close to winning the first Grand Slam title of his career in the 2022 season. However, he could not win the final match on both occasions. The Norwegian lost the 2022 French Open championship match to the 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal.

He then lost the US Open final to Carlos Alcaraz. At the ATP Finals 2022, he dazzled the world with his shots and abilities. However, he could not win the final match against the 21-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic. This year, his fans will be wishing that he win the first Grand Slam title of his career. Last time, he missed the Australian Open, because of an unfortunate injury. This time, he would love to open his account in the first Grand Slam of the year.

He is a seasoned player on clay. This can be proved by the fact that 8 of 9 ATP singles titles he has won in his career are all on clay. Going into the next season’s clay events, he will be a big favorite even at the Roland Garros. But this time, he would want to take the trophy home. Grass hasn’t been a forte for Ruud and he will be eyeing better results next year.

Norway will look up to him to deliver results in multi-nation events. Casper Ruud will start his 2023 season by participating in the inaugural edition of the United Cup being the flagbearer for his country. This tournament will be played in three Australian cities- Melbourne, Perth, and Brisbane from 29th December 2022 to 8th January 2023.
