As tennis fans root for another Novak Djokovic vs Carlos Alcaraz at the 2023 US Open final, fifth seed Casper Ruud is ready to play the party pooper. The Norwegian has sent an indirect warning to both Alcaraz and Djokovic who are the first and second seed at the Flushing Meadows as Ruud said that he will try to stop one of them from reaching the final.

The main draw for the 2023 US Open was released on Wednesday and Djokovic and Alcaraz are drawn in button and top half respectively, meaning they can only meet in the summit clash. Meanwhile, Ruud has been drawn in the third quarter, meaning he can meet Djokovic in the semis.

Carlos Alcaraz will have a tough way forward as he is expected to meet Jannik Sinner in the quarterfinals while one of Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev is expected to be his opponent in the semifinal. Now, if Casper Ruud managed to pull off a heist against Novak Djokovic, or if any of Sinner, Medvedev, and Rublev manage to beat Alcaraz, fans will be devoid of another epic contest. While Ruud himself is a fan of this epic face-off, he is ready to play the spoilsport.

“It’s always been a really, really good match. It’s a match-up that is going to be a treat for fans and who knows for how many years. When they play it’s going to be interesting and I’m one of the players who are going to try to stop them from playing again here in New York because it means that if they play, it’s in the final. So, everyone else also wants to reach the final, but they’re now the guys who mostly fans will keep their eyes on during the tournament. And they’re the two biggest favorites for sure,” said Rudd to Eurosport.

Casper Ruud can get his sweetest revenge possible

While Casper Ruud gets ready to play the party pooper, the Norwegian also stands a chance to get his sweetest possible revenge. Ruud was on the wrong side of results at the 2022 US Open final and it was Carlos Alcaraz who had snatched a win from Ruud. Also, Ruud was devoid of his maiden Grand Slam by Novak Djokovic at the 2023 French Open.

Now, the 2023 US Open presents Ruud with a chance to pull off the sweetest revenge possible. If the Norwegian meets Djokovic in the semifinal and manages to defeat the 23-time Grand Slam winner, and if Carlos Alcaraz reaches the final, Ruud can avenge his defeat at the 2022 US Open final.

This would be nothing less than a dream come true moment for the Norwegian considering he is yet to lift his first Grand Slam. But to pull off this, Casper Ruud has to be at a level he has never been before. It is to be seen if does that or if his plan to play the party pooper is spoiled.
