The Norwegian star, Casper Ruud has come up with his own new rule in tennis. He wished to see a one-serve tournament in the future and reasoned his ideas. It is apparent that the former world No.2’s tenure at the Rafa Nadal Academy has had a lasting impact. Despite Toni Nadal’s ongoing efforts over the past ten years to reform tennis rules, such as advocating for a move from two to one serve.

Ruud expressed support for such changes during his pre-tournament press conference at Indian Wells. Ruud also felt it will be great for tennis and cited its advantages. A format change will certainly attract the audience into knowing how it takes place and in turn helps the sport.

Speaking in the pre tournament press conference Ruud said, “Playing with one serve. It wouldn’t be easy, but it’s a rule that could be changed. This is something that obviously won’t happen, but if that could change, I’d like to see us play a few single serve tournaments and see what happens. I have the impression that we would have more exchanges. Sometimes, especially on a fast court, it’s very easy to hold serve and there are no fun rallies.”

He further said, “I think that’s funny, even if it doesn’t make it the right answer. There are people who think it’s fun to see straight serves and more direct rallies, just like for other players it’s more comfortable and easier to play long rallies quickly.”

Casper Ruud’s title quest at the Indian Wells Open began

The third seed, Casper Ruud started the tournament on a good note. He defeated the Argentinian, Diego Schwartzman in the first round in straight sets 6-2, 6-3. Schwartzman had no chance in the match, and didn’t look in control. Ruud will be facing Cristian Garín in the next round which is also one sided on the paper.

During the Tennis Channel interview following his match, Casper Ruud jokingly referred to his sisters Charlotte and Caroline as “clout chasers” for a TikTok video they made last month that featured an imitation of him. Ruud’s humorous comments about his sisters have earned him a great deal of praise from tennis fans.

Although the rankings suggest it to be a one-sided context, in their head-to-head record, Garin currently leads Ruud 2-1. However, in their last meeting at the 2022 ATP Cup, Ruud won in straight sets. Although Garin has previously defeated Ruud twice, these victories were during a time when the Norwegian was still establishing himself on the tour.
