Casper Ruud, the Norwegian tennis player, has expressed doubts about Novak Djokovic‘s golfing talents. He implied that Djokovic might struggle against Rafael Nadal in a golf match, despite the Serb being invited to play at the Ryder Cup All-Star match.
In a recent interview with TennisTV, Ruud was asked about Djokovic’s golf skills and a prospective matchup with Nadal. He said that the Serb may have beaten the Spanish star on the tennis court a fair number of times but definitely won’t be able to carry the same feat over to the golf course.
The world No. 9 said, “You’ve (Novak Djokovic) beaten Rafa a lot on the tennis court, but you won’t beat Rafa on the golf course. He’s going to have to live with that.“
The Serbian ace recently made headlines by venturing into golf. Djokovic was invited to play in the Ryder Cup All-Star match, a prominent event that draws athletes from various sports together for a one-of-a-kind golf battle. Fans were excited and anticipating Djokovic’s selection for the Ryder Cup All-Star match. It provided a unique opportunity to see the world No. 1 compete in a new sport.
Although Djokovic’s golfing performance might not have mirrored his tennis dominance, his participation in the Ryder Cup All-Stars match was a memorable and enjoyable moment for sports fans worldwide.
Ruud reveals he was also invited to the Ryder Cup All-star match
In his interview with TennisTV, the 24-year-old revealed that he was also invited to the golf battle, but he had to turn it down since he was committed to participate in the China Open in Beijing.
He remarked, “They (the Ryder Cup) actually asked me to be a part of this all-star match that Novak played, and I was so sad to turn them down because I was playing in Beijing.”
However, Ruud praised Novak Djokovic’s attempt at golf by saying that he had a better swing than he thought, and the Serb also managed to drive the green on hole 16.
On the tennis court, Ruud faced a quarterfinal defeat at the hands of world No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets. The Spaniard hit 30 winners against Ruud and broke him four times in a strong performance that lasted 1 hour and 45 minutes.
