After a series of interesting matches, the 2023 Wimbledon Championships is drawing toward its end. On Saturday (July 15), in the women’s singles final, Marketa Vondrousova will take on last year’s runner-up Ons Jabeur on Centre Court.

Jabeur thumped Belarus’s Aryna Sabalenka in three sets, while Vondrousova upset Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina in straight sets in the semifinals. If Vondrousova wins against Jabeur, she will become the first unseeded woman in the Open era to win the Wimbledon. On the other hand, the Tunisian would become the first Arab and North African woman to win the trophy at SW19.

As the two rivals vie for their first Grand Slam title, another key figure on the court faces an equally challenging task during the final. That person is the chair umpire, who must navigate through the intense drama and occasionally bear the brunt of player frustrations when decisions do not go their way. The chair umpire for the upcoming final has been revealed as Sweden’s Louise Azemar Engzell, entrusted with maintaining order and making critical calls during the match.
