Medvedev struggled to close out the match as he double-faulted on 40-40 at 5-3 in the 4th set. Speaking about the incident in the on-court interview, Medvedev said, “The crowd was unbelievable. I mean it. I felt love to both sides. 1,000 Spanish guys at 5-3 started screaming between 1st & 2nd serves. That’s not so nice. But I guess they were desperate. They can go to sleep now.”

In a rematch of the final of US Open 2021, newly crowned no.1 Novak Djokovic will face the 3rd seed Daniil Medvedev in the final of US Open 2023 on Sunday at the Arthur Ashe Stadium. In what might be called an upset, 3rd seed Medvedev put on a near-flawless performance to get the better of the defending champion and the 1st seed Carlos Alcaraz.

23-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic will make his 10th US Open and 36th Grand Slam final appearance. Djokovic also equalled Federer’s record of making the finals of all 4 Grand Slams in the season for the third time in his career. In the semi-final, he put on a disciplined performance to ease past the 19-year-old American Ben Shelton.

Medvedev would definitely not make it easy for the Serbian to win a record-extending 24th Grand Slam. The pair have faced off 14 times with Djokovic leading the head-to-head 9-5. Their most recent encounter came at the Dubai Masters earlier this year. The Russian won the semi final encounter in straight sets.
