One of the biggest names in the world of chess and probably one of the greatest to ever play the game, Magnus Carlsen recently disclosed how he thinks that the Serbian legend Novak Djokovic is the greatest of all time in tennis.
In an exclusive interview, the chess great was asked to name the players he felt were the greatest of all time in different sports. When it came to tennis, the chess grandmaster turned towards the 24-time Grand Slam champion while also adding that it used to be Roger Federer for him, but he resonated and related more to the playing style of Rafael Nadal.
It is no surprise that the Norwegian went ahead and chose Novak Djokovic in this debate. The World No. 1 has shown an impressive and dominant performance this season, winning three out of the four Grand Slam finals that he featured in this year.
Although the chess grandmaster also revealed how the Serbian became the greatest for him after his dominance at the Australian Open, he added that he used to be the 7-time Wimbledon champion before. However, he also added how he related most to the 14-time French Open champion.
It was after the Australian Open thing for me.Magnus Carlsen said
Magnus Carlsen is a five-time World Champion and has held the No. 1 position in the chess rankings since 2011, only second to the chess great Gary Kasparov. He is widely considered to be one of the greatest chess players ever.
A look at Novak Djokovic’s 2023 season
The 24-time Grand Slam champion had one of his best career seasons this year. With reaching all four finals of the Grand Slam and winning three of those, the Serbian showed utmost dominance as he continued to defeat the younger generation with ease.
Apart from the Slams, Nole also won a record-breaking 7th ATP Finals title in Turin this year while completing at the top of the world rankings for the eighth time in his career.
Novak Djokovic has shown no signs of slowing down and still seems hungry for titles as he prepares himself for the upcoming 2024 season. While he has won every single thing there is to win in the sport, an Olympic gold will always be ringing in his ears, and the 2024 Paris Olympics will provide him with just the opportunity he needs to add to his title tally.
