Tennis hall-of-famer Chris Evert questioned Miami Open champion Danielle Collins about her decision to retire soon from the sport. Collins created the biggest upset when she defeated Elena Rybakina in the final 7-5, 6-3 to become the champion in Miami for the first time.

With this win, Danielle Collins became the sixth American woman to clinch the trophy. But before this victory, she had announced after the Australian Open exit this year she would retire from tennis after the end of the season. This is why 18-time Grand Slam champion Chris Evert while congratulating her on X, questioned her whether she is still staying firm on her retirement decisions.

Despite the win, Danielle Collins asserted that she won’t take a U-turn on her plans to retire from tennis after this season. She wants to start a family but as her chronic health condition can affect her ability to get pregnant, she has to take this decision.

I feel like I have had to justify my decision a lot. I feel like if I was a guy, I probably wouldn't have to justify it that much.
Danielle Collins said in a press conference

She was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in 2019. And two years later, she underwent endometriosis surgery. But still that year, she became World No.7 reached the final of the Australian Open, and became America’s #1.

I've living with a chronic inflammatory disease that affects your ability to get pregnant, and so that's, like, a deeply, like, personal situation. I've kind of explained that from time to time.

Meanwhile, Collins, en route to defeating Elena Rybakina in the final, won all her matches in straight sets except for the first-round match against Bernarda Pera. Before Miami Open, Iga Swiatek knocked her out of the second round in straight sets in the Indian Wells.
