Chris Evert admires the 22-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic and the way he handled himself during the 2023 Australian Open. He struggled with a thigh injury all throughout the tournament but was able to overcome the rest of the competition to win his career’s tenth men’s singles title at Melbourne Park.

In a recent interview, the former World No.1 talked about how she is inspired by Novak Djokovic’s performances and his demeanour despite all the hard situations he had to face over the course of last few seasons. He is again denied entry into the Indian Wells Open because of his vaccination status.

However, the 18-time Grand Slam champion is confident that the Serbian will definitely be able to overcome any challenge that comes his way like he did at the Australian Open.

I was in awe that he could play under those circumstances. The guy can overcome almost anything. He is mentally so strong and so zeroed in on his goal. It just reconfirmed how mentally tough he is to win that title. It is amazing. He is amazing, and that is why he is No. 1 because he has got the mental, the emotional and the skill-set.He has got all three of them at such a high level, higher than anybody else, that combination,” she said.

The current World No.1 is more or less likely to miss the Miami Open too because of his vaccination status. This means that the clay court swing will be his next target where he would like to challenge the domination of Rafael Nadal and win his career’s third French Open title.

The 35-year old may be is in the twilight of his career but is not short of any inspiration to give his best shot at the world stage. He is in great form and continues to dominate the male tennis circuit. He is chasing his dream to win his career’s 23 Grand Slam title at Roland Garros and tie Serena Williams’s record.

The absence from the sunshine doubles can be a blessing in disguise for the 22-time Grand Slam champion as he will try to make deeper in roads in the clay tournaments which will be played later this year. It can be a similar situation for the Serbian as last year when he could not participate in the US Open because of his vaccination status.

However, he came back stronger and won the ATP Finals tournament. This refusal by US authorities in the ATP Masters tournaments in USA can act as a catalyst for Novak Djokovic to try harder in the upcoming event for the rest of the season.
