A video shared by the Official account of Ultimate Tennis Showdown on Instagram shows American tennis player Christopher Eubanks discussing the difference between how normal players and the big 4 react under pressure. The video was shot on the sidelines of the 6th edition of UTS in Frankfurt from 5 September to 17 September at the Süwag Energie Arena and featured Andrey Rublev, Diego Schwartzman and Jan-Lennard Struff, in addition to Eubanks. This was the second in a series of three events in 2023 leading up to the “Grand Final” in December 2023.
The big-serving American cited Rublev’s interview with ESPN in which he was asked about what he told himself to stay positive when things went bad. In response, Rublev said:
I was so negative. I was checking out of the hotel in my mind.
The American said that he related to Rublev’s thought process, in sharp contrast to that of the big-4.
Here’s the clip of the discussion:-
Eubanks, while agreeing with the fact that the positive attitude of the big-4 took them to greatness, said that when he heard them respond to pressure situations by saying that they always believed they’d come back, made him go “Bullsh*t”.
Christopher Eubanks teases Andrey Rublev over his record against the big-4 of tennis
Andrey Rublev holds the distinction of managing one tour-level win against each one of the big-4 of tennis. Talking about Rublev’s win against the world no.1 in the final of the Serbia Open last year, at the Novak tennis center, Eubanks reminded the Russian that he commentated in that match. Andrey defeated the Serbian legend 6-2,(4)6-7,6-0 to win his 11th tour-level title. Eubanks teased the Russian after he mentioned that he had managed a victory against all the members of the Big 4.
The 27-year-old American has struggled on the tour since his surprise quarter-final appearance at the Wimbledon. The American was defeated in the second round of his home Grand Slam last month. The world no.34 is currently on a 3-match losing streak. His latest defeat came in the first round of Swiss Indoors at the hands of Jan-Lennard Struff on Monday.
