Christopher Eubanks is back on American soil for the US Open. He has been experiencing things differently this year thanks to his outstanding performances in the tournaments. This is the first time the player has been seeded. He is currently ranked 28th in the ATP rankings. Speaking on the show “Good Morning America,” the 27-year-old dubbed 2023 the best year of his career. After his stint at Wimbledon, he has been gaining more recognition and popularity among people. He has been stopping for selfies quite frequently now.
“It’s amazing how things can change so fast. It’s been a completely different reality for me,” he told Robin Roberts in the interview on Wednesday. “I’m getting noticed a bit more now, going through the airport or going to restaurants. I’m just trying to proceed with life like I’ve always done it, but I’m saying that people are just recognizing me a little bit more.”
Eubanks has had a great season so far. The American player made his breakthrough after reaching the quarterfinals of the Miami Open in the qualifying round. He lifted his first ATP Tour trophy at a 250-level grass court event in Mallorca. A week later, he made a legendary run to the quarterfinals, where he defeated the likes of World No. 16 Cameron Norrie and World No. 5 Stefanos Tsitsipas.
He is currently relishing his new-found success. Recently, the Tennis Channel commentator went to view the hit musical ‘Hamilton” on a Tuesday night from the music pit. He also got to interact with the cast and crew of the play. The star-studded meet-and-greet included composer Lin-Manuel Miranda and actor Miguel Cervantes. Describing the event, he said, “To see how the production goes off, to see the musicians doing their job… I didn’t know I was going to be able to do that when I showed up! I just wanted to be able to see the play.”
Chris Eubanks on his relationship with Coco Gauff
American tennis is flourishing currently because of Chris Eubanks and Coco Gauff. It is interesting to note that both American tennis stars share a very good bond. Eubanks stated in his interview that he was constantly motivated by the people around him. One of them is the sixth-seeded player. Gauff sat in his pay box at SW19 of Wimbledon to cheer him on.
Speaking about their kinship, he said, “She’s like a little sister to me. She’s always told me, for years, ‘You’re good enough for those guys; you just have to believe it.” He also went on to talk about how much it meant to him that she sat there at Wimbledon and watched him play in what was the biggest win of his career. Eubanks appreciated her by saying, “It’s tough on tour to really go out and support your friends, so for her to go out and support me in multiple matches means the world to me.”
