World No. 5 Stefanos Tsitsipas locked horns with American player Christopher Eubanks in a thrilling 5-set match that resulted in the end of his Wimbledon 2023 journey. The energy of the crowd was in the sky in this exceptional 4th round match in Court 2. Eubanks displayed exceptional performance and has now placed himself in the quarterfinals for the first time ever.

The match began with Stef winning the set quite easily. But Eubanks held Stef’s winning streak and took him down in the second set with a tiebreaker. Stef made a comeback, taking down the American by a whopping 6-3. That is where the match got interesting. Eubanks, willing to fight till the end, dominated the Greek in the remaining sets and created history by winning the round in 3-6, 7(7)-6(4), 3-6, 6-4, 6-4

Eubanks won the match with 147 points and 53 wins. He had more aces (13), than Tsitsipas (11). Tsitsipas had a first-serve win percentage of 80 and a second-serve win percentage of 59. The Greek had a chance to advance for his first Wimbledon quarter-final after winning 34% of the receiving points. But Eubanks stopped him in his run and will now get ready for the QFs on 12th July.

After defeating Tsitsipas in a groundbreaking match, Eubanks has placed himself in the quarterfinals and will be battling former world number 1 and Russian sensation Daniil Medvedev. Medvedev is back on the court after an year’s ban and has reached the quarterfinals in an unnatural way. After leading with 2 sets against Czech player Jiri Lehecka, Medvedev made it to the quarter finals after the former was forced to retire mid match due to an injury.

Starting his professional career in 2017, Eubanks has seen a rapid rise. He has been an exceptional talent on the court. Eubanks began his triumphing journey earlier this year, when he defeated Soon-woo Kwon in a thrilling five-set match at the 2023 Australian Open. He showed his resilience and skill at the 2023 Miami Open. He reached the third round, where he defeated Grégoire Barrère in straight sets to get to his first Masters quarterfinal. Eubanks exceeded expectations by defeating Adrian Mannarino in the quarterfinals. Although he fell to none other than Daniil Medvedev in the QFs.

Eubanks’ success continued in June, when he qualified for his first European grass competition, the 2023 BOSS Open in Stuttgart. Continuing to build on his success, he made fantastic performances at the 2023 Mallorca Championships. He advanced to his first ATP tour-level semifinal by defeating Alex Michelsen, Ben Shelton, and Arthur Rinderknech. Eubanks saved five match points in a dramatic match against Lloyd Harris to clinch his place in the final. He overcame Adrian Mannarino in straight sets to win his maiden ATP tour title, displaying great resolve. Eubanks is in the Wimbledon for the first time in his career.
