American player Christopher Eubanks created history by defeating World No. 5 Stefanos Tsitsipas in his maiden Wimbledon Championships. The win would definitely have sent him to cloud nine, but the debutant has more reasons to be happy.
As Eubanks succeeded in crushing down Tsitsipas, he has reached the quarterfinals and has secured a membership in the ‘Last 8 Club’. Notably, only the players who have reached the quarterfinals can be a part of the club.
Being a member of the club will get you exclusive services that will include:
- A pass that will let you access the grass courts every day while the tournament is going on.
- A guest pass
- Reserved seats in the Centre Court and Court No. 1
- Free tea and coffee
- A happy hour between 6 PM to 7 PM
- Two tickets to the West End Show of their choice
The biggest perk of this membership is that it lasts for an indefinite period. That is, Eubanks will be able to access all these facilities for the entirety of his life. The 27-year-old American, who is now ranked 43 in the ATP rankings, has not always been a pro tennis player. He started his professional career in 2017. He is an alumnus of Georgia Tech University, and it was during his college and high school years that he focused a lot on the sport.
Christopher Eubanks into the QFs in his debut at the Wimbledon
On Monday, the American defeated fifth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas 3-6, 7-6(4), 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, and advanced to his first Major quarterfinal at SW19. Eubanks, who won his maiden ATP Tour championship in Mallorca before Wimbledon, defeated the Greek in a serve-dominated match.
Stefanos dropped nine points on serve in the first and second sets, but a double fault at 3/4 in the second-set tie-break proved crucial, allowing Eubanks to knot the match at one set all. He regained control with a strong third-set performance, as his serve and massive forehand worked in tandem to overwhelm Eubanks. Despite this, the American hung in there.
Eubanks was the most effective at channeling the rowdy atmosphere, with an engaged audience loving every point. His backhands to break in the first and seventh games, as well as the devastating forehand winner he delivered on match point, underlined his recent burst of self-belief on grass.
