Two of the most famous names in the tennis world today will butt heads yet again in the third round of the ongoing Cincinnati Open on Thursday. World No. 16, Alexander Zverev will be up against third seed Daniil Medvedev in a face-off that is highly anticipated and is sure to keep the fans glued to their seats.
The two have played against each other 15 times over the past few years, out of which Medvedev managed to win 9. Most recently, the two had clashed in Rome earlier this year where Medvedev beat Zverev 6-2, 7-6(3).

The excitement levels are at their peak and there is much anticipation amongst the fans regarding the clash between these two long-time court rivals. Alexander Zverev has played some impressive tennis this year. Though the German was knocked out of Wimbledon after the third round, he had managed to reach the quarter-finals of the French Open this year, winning in straight-sets over nineteenth seed Grigor Dimitrov.
Zverev appears to be in rather good form at the ongoing Cincinnati Masters. In his previous clashes, the 26-year-old won the first round in straight sets against Dimitrov and managed to secure a win against opponent Yoshito Nishioka as well, again in straight sets of 7-5, 6-4.
At the same time, Medvedev beat Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets of 6-3, 6-2 in a seemingly easy win, and managed to reach the third round of the tournament. At Wimbledon this year too, the Russian tennis star managed to make his way into the semi-finals of the tournament but was met with disappointment. He suffered defeat at the hands of the top seed and eventual winner of the tournament, Carlos Alcaraz.
Zverev and Medvedev are arch-rivals on the court, with this upcoming round marking their 16th face-off. The two have previously played against each other on 15 occasions, out of which Zverev managed to win only six. In fact, Medvedev has consistently won the last three clashes between the two, with Rome being the most recent one.

As Zverev and Medvedev gear up to face each other on the court, having won against his opponent the last three times, the pressure will be on the World No. 3 to keep on with his three-time streak and defeat the World No. 16, Zverev. However, Zverev can fight back but it will require precision, strong smashes as well as a whole lot of mental clarity throughout the game to beat the Russian. Though Medvedev holds a lead in their head-to-head face-off, defeating Zverev might not be easy. Expect Zverev to take a set.
