World No. 7 Coco Gauff will face Italian player Jasmine Paolini to fight for a place in the semi-finals of the Cincinnati Open. She defeated Linda Noskova and Mayar Sherif to reach the quarterfinals. 

This is the first quarterfinal of the WTA 1000 for Italian player Jasmine Paolini. She will have to fight tooth and nail to reserve a place for her in the semi-finals. Whoever wins will face World No. 1 Iga Swiatek or Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova.

The American player Coco Gauff defeated Linda Noskova 6-4, 6-0 in the third round. This is her 10th career 1000-quaterfinal. She has been in good form this season, as she won her fourth title in Washington and reached the quarterfinals of the Canadian Open.

On the other hand, World No. 43 Jasmine Paolini has a total of 24 wins and 10 losses this year. She has been mostly successful only in WTA 125 and WTA 250 events. She caused a huge upset as she defeated World No. 4 Elena Rybakina. Although she reached the quarterfinals because her opponent, Rybakina, was dealing with an injury, it still counts as a major victory for her.

This is the second time Gauff and Paolini will face each other. Their first meeting was in Adelaide in 2021. Gauff had won 6-4, 6-7(4), 6-2. However, the Italian has since grown, as last time she lost to Marta Kostyuk in the qualifications 6-2, 6-2.

Paolini is the obvious underdog in this match. Gauff has been more consistent since Wimbledon and has improved her forehand a lot. The Italians will prove to be a difficult opponent for Gauff. Even if Gauf wins, she will potentially have to face World No. 1 Iga Swiatek on her journey to the finals.
