Belinda Bencic vs Coco Gauff: Preview

World No. 15 Belinda Bencic has had a very inconsistent year so far after missing the last two months of last year due to injury. Having recovered just in time for the first-ever tournament of 2023, the Adelaide International 2, she lifted the title beating Daria Kasatkina in the final making a gem of a return giving her fans to expect big things from her in the coming days.
Just a month after, she went on to win the Abu Dhabi Open as well, beating the likes of Liudmila Samsonova, Beatriz Haddad Maia, Shelby Rogers, and Marta Kostyuk on the way. But after that, it has been all but dry performances from Bencic failing to live up to the expectations of the fans. Her only other impressive finish came at the Charleston Open where she made it to the final only to lose against Ons Jabeur. Having started the ongoing Citi Open in fine fashion beating Anastasia Potapova and Lauren Davis in the first two matches, she will expect big things from herself in the upcoming matchup against highly-ranked Gauff.
On the other hand, Coco Gauff has not performed well this year at all, rather it has been one of the hardest for the American. She has hit absolute rock bottom losing 11 matches on the trot and has also faced a lot of bashing from the fans as well. Having changed numerous coaches and finally putting her trust in Spaniard, Pere Riba, she looks to be back into the player Gauff was a couple of months ago.
She started the year in absolute peak form clinching the ASB Classic after beating the likes of Rebeka Masarova, Danka Kovinić, Zhu Lin, Sofia Kenin, and Tatjana Maria on the way. After that, it has been only disappointment after disappointment with her highest-ever finishes coming only at the Dubai Tennis Championships and the Eastbourne International losing to Iga Swiatek and Madison Keys respectively. She has started her home tournament in fine fashion picking up a straight sets 6-1, 6-4 win over Hailey Baptiste, and looks to end the competition with the title in her hands.
Bencic and Gauff have faced each other only once in the past at the Adelaide International semi-final way back in 2021 with the Swiss winning the match by 6-7, 7-6, 2-6.
Belinda Bencic vs Coco Gauff: Prediction

Coco Gauff has been looking like a whole different player in the ongoing Citi Open and looks to have found her form back. Despite her rough patch in the last few months, she will prevail against the Swiss and is expected to book her place in the semis comfortably considering her performance in the last match. Expect a good match with Coco moving into the next round.
Prediction: Gauff to win in two sets.
