Coco Gauff and Iga Swiatek will lock horns against each other in a mouth-watering semifinal clash at the Cincinnati Open. The American has vastly been on the receiving end when it comes to the head-to-head record over the world number one. However, Coco Gauff is determined to put up a fight against the top seed in the semifinals.
The duo recently competed against each other at the 2023 French Open, where Swiatek claimed a straight-sets victory. The four-time Grand Slam champion also claimed a straight-sets victory over the American in the finals of the French Open last year. Despite her poor record against the reigning US Open champion, Coco Gauff believes that she did put up a better fight against Iga Swiatek at the French Open a couple of months earlier.
“I don’t have a good track record against her. I feel like the [2023] French Open match that I played her, even though it was a straight-sets score line, I think I made some improvements against her since the last time I played her,” said Gauff.
Coco Gauff is confident about staging an upset in the Cincinnati Open semifinals

Coco Gauff is determined to end her losing streak against Iga Swiatek, as the pair face off in the semifinals of the Cincinnati Open. The American stated that she will continue to follow her plan, and not try to attempt anything out of the blue. She also acknowledged the quality of the opponent she was up against in the semifinals.
“I’m just really going to go out there and continue to follow the plan that I’ve been doing in the last couple of my matches. … I do feel a lot more confident going into it tomorrow. But she’s not an easy opponent to play, especially against me. I think I really just got to take it point by point and try to stay mentally engaged every ball,” Gauff continued.
Iga Swiatek defeated reigning Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova in the quarterfinals in straight sets. On the other hand, Coco Gauff completely outplayed Jasmine Paolini in straight sets in her last eight encounters. The seventh seed has been in fine form this week, as she is yet to drop a single set in the tournament.
