Coco Gauff, the American sensation, has yet again created history by becoming the youngest-ever winner of the Cincinnati Open. She has yet to win any Grand Slam, but her current form may change this. Following her Cincinnati Open win against Karolina Muchova, many of her fans are looking to her as the successor of Serena Williams.
The 19-year-old has spoken about walking on Serena’s path to success. She said in the post-match press conference, “It’s definitely a lot of pressure, it’s something that I don’t take lightly.” Gauff acknowledges the gravity of this comment and what it truly means to her.
Gauff also commented on how the people look up to her as the ‘next Serena Williams’ because they come from the same race. She said, “I think sometimes I guess it increases the pressure because I know that this community of people, the community of people of color, Black people, look up to me a lot. Especially with Serena retiring, people consider me the next leader or something of tennis.”
The dream for her is to be “THE GOAT” but realistically, she knows the kind of effort that is required to earn that tagline since the retirement of Serena. Coco’s goal is to be the best both off and on the court and she acknowledged the mistakes she made and is willing to learn from them to be the best.

The American rising star of tennis Coco Gauff has the potential to become the next ‘GOAT’ of tennis and acquire the title from Serena Williams. It comes with immense pressure, but Coco is determined to succeed. She said that she wants to be the best version of herself and that she tries to pay attention to how she presents herself on and off the court.
On the court, the American showcases her powerful forehands and accurate serves. Her biggest plus point is that she can swiftly move across the court to play any kind of shot. Off the court, Gauff uses her platform to voice her opinions about social issues like racism and police brutality.
Gauff received nothing but praise upon beating Muchová in the finals of the Cincinnati Open. She now becomes a notable role model for the younger generation and prepares hard for the 2023 US Open to add to her path to becoming the next ‘GOAT”.
