After her unexpected victory over World No. 1 Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff declared that she did not want to share Gael Monfils‘ win-loss record against Novak Djokovic.

Gauff, the world No. 7, made a big milestone in her recent match against Swiatek at the Cincinnati Open, as the 19-year-old finally got on the scoreboard in their head-to-head, which Swiatek had previously led 7-0.

During her post-match interview, Coco expressed how important this victory was to her. “It feels good,” she said. To be honest, I’m not sure if I was planning too far ahead. No offence to Gael, but that record, like the Novak and Gael record, did not appeal to me. That was not something I desired. Yeah, I’m trying to keep this as short as possible. So, perhaps, I’ll be able to meet her again and get the numbers up (smile).”

Gauff later stated that this victory has improved her confidence in her ability to play against the greatest, as she defeated the World No. 1. Continuing her train of thought, she further added, “But it feels really good. It wasn’t necessarily like her as a player. I think it was just the moment playing players like her. I think it gives me confidence that I have the ability. I mean, she’s a four-time Grand Slam champion, No. 1. It shows that I can be at that level or compete with that level at least.”

Gauff will meet an experienced player in the following round, so it will be interesting to see if she can bring her A-game. Fans rejoiced after her outstanding performance. Sharing a wide spectrum of reactions online, here’s what fans have to say:

Coco Gauff will be a big favorite in the final against Karolina Muchova on Sunday. Muchova reached the final after defeating second seed Aryna Sabalenka in a rematch of their 2023 French Open semifinal, 6-7(4), 6-3, 6-2.

With that being said, there is no denying the fact that both of these players are powerful hitters, it will be an interesting match to witness. Gauff has exceeded expectations this year, winning the championship in Washington, D.C., reaching the quarterfinals of the Canadian Open, and now reaching her first WTA 1000 final.

Muchova will have to deal with crowd pressure because the audience cheered against her in her previous encounter. Since Muchovahas has had a relatively early existence this year, she will need to win this title. Muchova will have to bring her best weapons to the court and be extremely consistent in order to defeat Gauff on her home court.
