Coco Gauff has expressed her support for combined ATP and WTA events, emphasizing their ability to draw large spectators and promote tennis on a global scale. Gauff stated her view that combined events can take the sport to new heights and further consolidate its place as a true global phenomenon.

Gauff expressed her enthusiasm for the concept in a recent interview, citing her personal experience at a nearly crowded stadium during the Washington Open. The enthusiastic fan support shown during these joint tournaments demonstrates that excitement and interest in women’s tennis are on par with men’s. It dispels any notion that the two tours should be kept separate.

It was almost a sold-out crowd which is really cool….It just shows we can bring as many crowds as the men in combined events. Hopefully, we do more of them…. I think it pushes tennis to even more of a global standard than it already is,” remarked Gauff.

Combined ATP and WTA competitions provide fans with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see both men’s and women’s elite players compete on the same stage. This style not only exposes male and female competitors’ different talents and outstanding athleticism, but it also creates a better sense of inclusivity and equality within the sport.

Gauff dominated Liudmila Samsonova in the Citi Open semifinals to reach the tournament’s final. Gauff’s superb form and persistent commitment shone through as she strolled to a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over the tenacious Russian player.

Samsonova, the reigning champion from the 2022 edition, demonstrated skill by reaching the semi-finals again this year. Her path to the final, however, was obstructed by the stiff task offered by the American.

The semi-final match between Gauff and Samsonova highlighted Gauff’s exceptional ability on both serve and return. Throughout the match, the 19-year-old showed off her serve power, hitting eight aces without a single double fault. Her flawless serving helped her to save all eight break points she faced, displaying the ability to maintain her serve even in critical situations.

Gauff’s return game, in addition to the excellent serve, was as formidable. She constantly pressed Samsonova’s serve, creating ten break-point chances and converting three of them. Gauff’s aggressive and deliberate approach, particularly when returning from well behind the baseline, proved to be a winning strategy against her tough opponent. The American’s domination was clear from start to end in the match that lasted 1 hour and 42 minutes.
