Last month, Coco Gauff made headlines when she beat the current World No. 1, Aryna Sabalenka, at the finals of the 2023 US Open. With her Grand Slam victory, Gauff became only the third American teen to claim the title after Serena Williams and former World No. 1 Tracy Austin.
Though she skyrocketed to worldwide fame with her historic feat recently, the teen had partnered with New Balance back in 2018. With the advent of autumn, the company rolled out a new ‘Halloween-inspired’ version of the 19-year-old’s signature shoes.
The American teenage sensation Gauff entered into a partnership with the sports footwear brand New Balance five years ago, at the age of 14. She had co-designed her signature shoes, the Coco CG1, with the company as well. In fact, Gauff was seen wearing her signature shoes in ‘brick red’ and ‘City Brights’ colorways at her final match at the US Open as well.
New Balance revealed the latest version of the CG1 shoes on October 3, which feature a gothic jet-black and deep purple color scheme. The US Open champ’s signature shoes are in the newly launched “Spooky Season” colorway. This is the first colorway New Balance has revealed since Gauff turned into an overnight sensation with her Grand Slam win. It was inspired by Gauff’s favorite holiday, Halloween, which is right around the corner.
The New Balance Coco CG1 ‘Spooky Season’ features a mid-cut court silhouette and provides just the right amount of traction for a spectacular performance by the players on-court. The shoes were inspired by the likes of what basketball players prefer and come in vibrant and bright colorways to match the simple yet powerful energy of Coco Gauff.
The CG1 shoes in the latest colorway will be available on the company’s website, www.newbalance.com, as well as with select global retailers, starting October 6. These will be up for sale at the retail price of $170. According to some reports, Coco Gauff will be wearing these shoes in the ‘Spooky Season’ colorway at the WTA Finals.
Coco Gauff reveals her plans to bag more Grand Slam Titles in the future
Ahead of her opening-round match at the WTA 1000 event in China, Coco Gauff had spent some time in Beijing, learning about Chinese culture. In a press conference a few days ago, the 19-year-old expressed her desire to not stop at one Grand Slam win and to keep hustling on-court to win several titles in the future as well.
“I don’t feel any different. The first couple days I did, then once I got home, I was like, ‘Okay, it’s back to normal,” the American admitted to the press in Beijing. “I think maybe because my eagerness and my ambition is so high, I don’t want to end at just one Slam,” continued Gauff. While many would expect such an achievement to impact the mindset of a young athlete, Gauff remains focused and driven by her ambition to win.
