American teen tennis sensation Coco Gauff is a Novak Djokovic fan and it is no secret. The 19-year-old leaves no chance to express his admiration for the Serbian legend. On Saturday, Gauff hilariously announced Djokovic’s name as the 36-year-old came out to play his third-round match against compatriot Laslo Djer.

As Djokovic was in line to play at the Arthur Ashe Stadium after Gauff completed her third-round match against Elise Mertens, the presenter asked the American to clear the court for her “session partner”. Gauff nodded in apprehension and took the opportunity to call Djokovic’s name.

“Your session partner coming up next is…” said Pam Shriver while Gauff announced Djokovic’s name before bursting into laughter. The crowd, meanwhile, gave a loud cheer.

Coco Gauff and Novak Djokovic are really good at what they do and hence the two players share a mutual admiration. While the Serbian has established himself as one of the best to have picked up a racket, Gauff is also on the right path to script history. The 19-year-old recently earned heaps of praise from Djokovic for her consistency.

The 36-year-old predicted that a Grand Slam is near for the American and claimed that she is really close to the level of being a complete player. “I think she’s coming very close to that stage and that level (of a complete player). So, I’m sure that she has very high hopes for the US Open and she should, because she’s playing really well,” said Djokovic a few days back.

Speaking of Coco Gauff’s 2023 US Open campaign, the American has been nothing short of phenomenal so far in the three rounds. The 19-year-old, seeded sixth defeated German tennis player Laura Siegemund in three sets of 3-6, 6-2, 6-4. She then knocked out Mirra Andreeva, defeating the Russian in straight sets of 6-3, 6-2.

In her third-round match, Gauff beat Elise Mertens 3-6, 6-3, 6-0 in two hours and 4 minutes. Gauff will now face Caroline Wozniacki in the pre-quarterfinals.
