American tennis sensation Coco Gauff suffered yet another early exit in a tournament at the German Open to inform Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova. The final scoreline read 4-6, 0-6 in favor of the Russian, who is fresh off winning a title at the Libema Open in the Netherlands.
Off to a 3-1 lead in the first set, Gauff ended up losing 11 of the next 12 games in a lopsided fashion, winning only 2 points off her second serve the entire match. “Grass is not my favorite surface, but somehow, I’m managing to play so well on it. And maybe the score looks easy, but it’s never like that because she played amazing. I needed to stay focused during every single point to keep it that way. I’m just hoping I can keep this form as long as I can,” said Alexandrova on her recent form on the grass.
This is Gauff’s fifth Round 2 exit in six tournaments, a string of bad results dating back to the Miami Open, with her quarter final appearance at Roland Garros being the only saving grace.

Coco Gauff faces barrage of criticism on twitter following one sided loss
Fans on twitter were quick to show their disbelief and disappointment as they reacted with criticism, ranging from her needing to sack her father as coach, to working on her forehand, right down to match fixing allegations.
A lot of fans criticized her saying that she has been lucky to receive preferential treatment being a young talent, but that her recent results portray her to be undeserving of it. They pointed out that while she has an impressive record on clay; it is close to abysmal on grass. She has yet to better her impressive debut showing of a 4th round appearance at Wimbledon 2019.
Many fans and tennis pundits alike opine that her forehand needs a lot more work. In her match against Alexandrova, Coco did show moments of brilliance in the second set, winning some long rallies. However, all her work was undone with her astounding 27 unforced errors off the forehand in the match.
The nature of her defeat has brought in allegations of matchfixing to the American. Fans have also been particularly critical of her father / coach, Corey Gauff; they believe she is now better off hiring a professional coach.
Most fans however, were not nearly as critical and they believe that losing to a player in fantastic form on grass such as Alexandrova should not invite such criticism.
While her results at the past few tournaments has not been very encouraging, most fans agree that Gauff is a dangerous opponent in any form. Given her recent performance, will Coco manage to pick her form in time for the Championships at Wimbledon? She certainly can. But for now she will have to get back to the drawing board and the tennis court to work on her game.
