American teenage tennis sensation Coco Gauff has had the world at her hands for the last couple of months as she saw herself win three trophies in the space of just three months. Apart from that she also bagged her first Grand Slam title of her career beating World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka in the finals.

A couple of months ago, the American wouldn’t even dream about playing the 2023 WTA Finals but now she has the opportunity to end the year with another trophy. Coco Gauff was very excited last gala as she expressed her keenness on playing in front of the Mexican fans hoping to give them a great show.

"Just a lot of fun. I'm hoping to play some good tennis. I've been practicing well, hopefully, I can transfer that onto the match court."

"Oh, they're really great. I didn't play Guadalajara this year but I played last year and the fans were really receiving and supportive of me so hopefully I can get the same support here in Cancun. It reminds me of home. I live close to Miami so I'm really familiar, everything seems familiar here. The weather's pretty much similar and obviously the beach. I love the beach. I'm like a mermaid so to wake up every day and see the beach is a dream."

Coco Gauff’s performance at the 2022 WTA Finals

Coco Gauff went into the 2022 WTA Finals tournament as the fourth-seeded player but was no match-up against the other tennis stars. She was clubbed up in group Tracy Austin alongside Iga Swiatek, Caroline Garcia, and Daria Kasatkina with the majority of the tennis fans expecting her to make it to the semis easily considering her form ahead of the competition.

She disappointed both herself and her well-wishers as she couldn’t manage to win a single set in all her three group stage matches. She first went up against Swiatek losing to her by 6-3, 6-0 followed by a 6-4, 6-3 defeat against Garcia.

In her last match against Kasatkina, she also lost the match by a scoreline of 7-6, 6-3. On account of her performances last year, at yesterday’s gala event, Coco said,

"Oh no, I'm just going to go out there and have fun. Last Finals I did not do well so it's only upwards from here."
