Despite losing to Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinal of the 2024 Australian Open, young talent Coco Gauff was able to break one record against the Belarusian.
The American youngster clocked a speed of 201 km/h (124.9 mph) with one of her serves in the semifinal match, which became the fastest serve of the tournament and the third-fastest serve ever at the Australian Open in women’s singles.

Alycia Parks had clocked a speed of 197 km/h (122.4 mph) with one of her serves in an earlier round, while Aryna Sabalenka had a 195 km/h (121.1 mph) serve to her name. They came in second and third places, respectively. Overall, it was men’s junior player Tomask Berkieta who had the fastest serve in the tournament with a serve of 233 km/h.
Although Coco Gauff clocked the fastest serve of the tournament in her match against Aryna Sabalenka, in practicality, she was totally outmuscled by the Belarusian.
Sabalenka finally took her much-awaited revenge for her loss against Coco in the US Open final as she defeated the World No. 4 in straight sets. The Belarusian then went on to defeat Qinwen Zheng in the final to win the Australian Open two times in a row.
Talking about Coco Gauff’s campaign in the tournament, it was fairly decent. She defeated Alycia Parks and Marta Kostyuk en route to the semifinal. However, fans had expected her to perform way better against the Belarusian, especially seeing how she had played in the US Open final.
