American tennis ace Coco Gauff is in Mexico for the 2023 WTA Finals. The reigning US Open champion managed a second consecutive qualification and now stands a chance to win her maiden WTA Finals title.
Gauff has started her campaign with an emphatic win over Tunisian Ons Jabeur. After the win, the American talked about fan support and revealed that she received a marriage proposal.

During her on-court interview, Gauff said that she did not expect so much support here in Cancun as Jabeur has a lot of fans. The 19-year-old American then revealed that she got a marriage proposal prior to her first game. Gauff then thanked the fans for showing up in large numbers despite the venue being confirmed so late.
Honestly, I wasn’t expecting as much support today, I know Ons has a lot of fans. I got a marriage proposal yesterday. I am feeling the love here in Cancun. Thank you guys for coming out. I know a lot of people flew here with it being announced a little bit later in the year. So, we appreciate you guys and hopefully, we can get more people to come as we continue.Coco Gauff said in her on-court interview.
Coco Gauff will do a Steffi Graf if it happens again
Coco Gauff got the marriage proposal midway during her opening doubles match at the season-ending championships. The American teenager revealed that this was not the first time something of this sort had happened.

Gauff also talked about having thoughts about replying to the proposal like Steffi Graf did when she got a proposal during a match at The Championships. The 19-year-old then said that she aborted the plan, thinking she would be targeted if she lost the game.
Somebody said, 'Will you marry me' and I think it was Steffi Graf who said, 'How much money do you have?'" Gauff said after her singles win over Ons Jabeur. "I almost wanted to recreate that moment, but then if we would have lost people would have said 'they lost because she said that'. So I was like alright, I won't do that.Coco Gauff via WTA
However, Gauff said that she won’t hold herself back if it happens again. Coming to the game, Gauff enjoyed a dominant hand over Jabeur as she earned her maiden win at the WTA Finals. Gauff lost all her matches (singles and doubles) at the 2022 WTA Finals. She had a flawed start to the tournament yet again as she and Jessica Pegula lost their first game.
Nevertheless, Gauff secured a 6-0, 6-1 win in a rain-marred game. This was her 50th win this season. Out of these 50 wins, eight have come against the top 10 players. Now, the American will face Swiatek, who is also coming on the back of a win, in her second match.
