Reigning US Open champion Coco Gauff donated her outfit and the shoes that she wore during the 2023 US Open final against Aryna Sabalenka to the International Tennis Hall of Fame. Coco’s gear will be put on display in Newport at the Hall of Fame Museum for the fans to see throughout the end of the year.
Coco Gauff defeated current world no.1 Aryna Sabalenka in the women’s singles final in three sets to clinch her maiden Grand Slam title. The 19-year-old American came from a set behind to take the game 2-6, 6-3, 6-2. With this, Gauff got her name etched in the history books as she became one of the youngest Americans to win the title at the Flushing Meadows.
The youngster then gave a rousing speech where she talked about everything from her dad crying to critics not counting her as the title favorite. Gauff became an overnight inspiration for the young girls in America with her title win in New York. Now, the 19-year-old has donated her outfit which will be available for the fans to see.
“Some noteworthy additions. @CocoGauff’s iconic @newbalance shoes and outfit from her @usopen win are now in Newport! The gear is on display at the International Hall of Fame for fans to view in the museum through the end of the year,” the International Tennis Hall of Fame announced on Friday while sharing the pictures of Gauff’s outfit on display at the museum.
Coco Gauff gearing up for the WTA Finals in Mexico
After lifting titles in Cincinnati (WTA 1000) and New York (Grand Slam), Coco Gauff will now have her eyes set on the WTA Finals title. The American has qualified for the year-end tournament for the second time in a row. While Gauff did not leave a good first impression, the 19-year-old has the form on her side this time around.
Although Gauff’s 16-match unbeaten streak was broken by Iga Swiatek in China, the rising superstar will be hoping to make the most of this opportunity when the players take the court in Cancun, Mexico. Gauff is currently nursing a shoulder injury that she sustained in China. She pulled out of the subsequent tournaments due to the same and has plans to return directly in the WTA Finals.
The 19-year-old American will be confident to take the ultimate prize in Mexico and end the year on a high. But it will not be an easy task for Gauff considering Iga Swiatek is catching up on her old form after an aberration in New York. The Pole recently clinched the title in China. Aryna Sabalenka will also be a strong title contender.
