Coco Gauff faced a crushing defeat in the semis of the Australian Open. The American was up against the defending champion, Aryna Sabalenka, with her place in the finals on the line.
Sabalenka stepped up her game and beat Gauff in straight sets to book her place in the second consecutive final of the Australian Open.

The teenager performed well throughout the tournament, as she reached the quarterfinals without dropping a single set. And she edged past Marta Kostyuk in a thriller to book her place in the semifinals.
Gauff made a nervous start to the proceedings in the semis as she made six double faults in the first set. Even though she made a decent comeback, it was not enough as World No. 2 blew past her in the tiebreaker.

The rivalry seems to be growing between Coco Gauff and Aryna Sabalenka
Very few have been able to challenge Sabalenka in Australia since last year. The Belarusian becomes the first woman since Serena Williams to qualify for the back-to-back finals of the Australian Open and will face Qinwen Zheng for the title.
The rivalry seems to be growing between the two players since the US Open 2023 when Gauff beat Sabalenka to the title.
So far in the season, the American has been in pretty good form. Starting off the season by winning the ASB Classic and then reaching the semis of the Australian Open, Gauff looks deadly for the rest of the season.
