Star American doubles pair Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff have been one of the best in the women’s doubles section for quite some time now. They are currently participating at the Canadian Open and are the top-seeded. On Tuesday, they played their first-round encounter against Aldila Sutjiadi and Miyu Kato, beating them by 6-7, 6-1, 10-3 to progress to the next round.

During the match, a funny incident occurred as Gauff’s service hit Pegula on her body with many fans stating that the duo might be towards to end of their doubles relationship. Well, nothing seems to have been confirmed by any of the players with Pegula even stating publicly that she feels comfortable performing with Coco and wants to continue playing doubles tennis alongside her in the near future.

While Pegula is currently performing great in both the singles and double section, Coco confirmed a few days ago that she wants to focus more on her singles tournaments rather than playing much doubles tennis.

She went to pick the singles as her sole priority at the moment revealing, “I mean, I’m sure as I get way older, yeah, it won’t be as much of a priority. Even now we’re playing less doubles, Jess and I, I think than we did last year. We’re just trying to pick out our tournaments a lot better. The ranking in doubles isn’t a priority. It just kind of happens when you do well, so it’s not something that I’m thinking about.” (H/T: Tennis Infinity)

With rumors pertaining to their split, a lot of tennis fans have been left worried. The amount of entertainment that this duo brings on the court is simply unparalleled and unmatched and their titles do say the same story about their success in recent months. The duo has gone on to win two titles until now this year namely the Qatar Open, where they overcome a tough battle against Lyudmyla Kichenok and Jelena Ostapenko.

Another title win came at the start of April at the Miami Open, beating Taylor Townsend and Leylah Annie Fernandez. They also made it to the finals of the Madrid Open but this time they couldn’t convert it into a title as they were second best up against Victoria Azarenka and Beatriz Haddad Maia and the same happened when they came runners up at the Italian Open against Storm Sanders and Elise Mertens.
