In a lighthearted interaction, Coco Gauff mocked Chris Eubanks’s doubles performance at the US Open. Gauff recalled an amusing episode in which she made some light banter about Eubanks’ volleys, only to match up with him for mixed doubles and suffer an unexpected loss.
Gauff couldn’t help but tease Eubanks about his volley talents, sparking a lighthearted exchange. “In the US Open, I gave Chris a little cr*p with his volleys. And he’s like, it’s not that easy, blah, blah, blah.” Gauff playfully asserted her own prowess, stating, “And then, you know, I was like, you know, I was number one in the world. So I know a little something.”
Despite her initial skepticism, Gauff was paired with Eubanks for mixed doubles. She said, “I play mixed doubles with him and we lost. No, I’m not going to. Well, we lost the match, you know, partly mainly because of him.“
Gauff a lighthearted jab at Eubanks and his partner Ben Shelton, saying, “You know, they think they know it all. You know, no, I mean, there’s not like a lot I can tell them, but, you know, I did tell them I was like sometimes I did give like when they played with each other.”
Coco Gauff advances to semifinals at the Western and Southern Open

Gauff, the No. 7 seed from the United States, reached her first-ever Western & Southern Open semifinal. She won 6-3, 6-2 in 1 hour and 12 minutes in a dominant performance, booking her place in the final four of the Cincinnati tournament.
Gauff, the only American woman to reach the singles quarterfinals on home soil this week, displayed her brilliance by easily defeating World No. 43 Jessica Paolini. Gauff has reached her third WTA 1000 semifinal with three straight-set victories during the tournament. She previously advanced to the semifinals in both Rome in 2021 and Dubai earlier this year.
Notably, Gauff’s accomplishment also marks a watershed moment in history. She is the first adolescent to reach the Western and Southern Open semifinals since Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in 2010. She is also the first American adolescent to accomplish this since Halle Cioffi in 1988.
Gauff’s record at WTA 1000 tournaments has cemented her place as a rising talent in the sport. Her 41 victories at this level are unrivaled by any player under the age of 20. Gauff dominated her quarterfinal match against Paolini, finishing with more winners and fewer unforced errors than her opponent.
