Coco Gauff stormed into the semifinals of the Cincinnati Open, as she claimed a straight sets victory over Jasmine Paolini in the last eight encounters. The American has continued her fine form this tournament, as she is yet to drop a set. During her quarterfinal victory, the seventh seed showed signs of frustration, as she threw her racket in the second set.

Coco Gauff explained the reason behind her anger during her post-match speech. The American stated that it was important for her to release her anger, otherwise, it would have eventually boiled down to her making errors in between rallies. The youngster went on to win six straight games from there on and booked a place in the semifinals.

“I showed a little anger in set 2, but you know. It was needed. Otherwise the anger comes out in the rallies.. Usually they say don’t throw your racquet but I won 6 games in a row. What can you do. I don’t know, just don’t hurt anyone,” said Gauff.

Coco Gauff will face her toughest test of the week, as she will lock horns against Iga Swiatek in the semifinals. The world number one has a superior head-to-head record over the American across all surfaces. The duo last met at the 2023 French Open, where the eventual champion reigned supreme in straight sets.

However, Coco Gauff has been one of the most impressive players this week. The 19-year-old has an incredible opportunity to end her losing streak against the world number one and reach the finals of the Cincinnati Open. Last week, she was defeated in the quarterfinals of the Canadian Open by American compatriot Jessica Pegula in three sets.

Coco Gauff claimed the Citi Open title a couple of weeks ago when she defeated Maria Sakkari in the finals. Her preparations leading up to the 2023 US Open have been ideal, and a title in Cincinnati could make her among the top contenders for the final Grand Slam of the year.
