Coco Gauff continues to prove her tag of being the next big thing in the sport. The reigning US Open champ had a brilliant campaign down under as well. She won the Tour title in Auckland, defeating Elina Svitolina in the finals.
At the 2024 Australian Open, she lost to defending and eventual champion Aryna Sabalenka. Except for her close quarter-final clash against Marta Kostyuk, she had not dropped a set in Melbourne. She returned home with a 10-1 record Down Under losing a set only in 3 of the 11 matches.

The teen has a long list of well-wishers, and former World No. 1 Andy Roddick is the latest entrant to it. Roddick has been one of the most candid tennis personalities out there, and he does not sugarcoat things. Earning praise from him is definitely a big achievement for Gauff.
The 2003 US Open champ had recently spent some time with the teenager on the court. And he was blown away by Gauff’s work ethic, willingness to learn, and ability to take feedback. Roddick praised his young compatriot, giving further details about their meeting.
I think Coco will be a dominant server, I was blown away by the two or three days we spent together, the feedback she's able to give, what she's able to take in, and the professional manner. There are people who don't work as hard... they're not a household name like Coco Gauff is.Said Roddick speaking on his podcast, Served with Andy Roddick.
For someone who hasn't turned 20, I was absolutely blown away. I would show up for her anytime she asks, I was so impressed with her.Added the former World No. 1.
Coco Gauff rises to career-high ranking post the Australian Open
Despite her exit in the semi-finals, Gauff had a lot of positives to look forward to. Since her first-round exit at the 2023 Wimbledon, she has hardly lost a match on the Tour. She shook off her Wimbledon defeat by winning the Tour title in Washington without dropping a set.

In a battle of Americans, she then suffered a quarter-final defeat to Jessica Pegula in the 2023 Canadian Open. Gauff, however, won the WTA-1000 title in Cincinnati, followed by the US Open crown. She made it to the semis of the Beijing Open, where she lost to World No. 1 Iga Swiatek.
The Pole defeated her once again in the round-robin tie of the 2023 WTA Finals before Pegula knocked her out in the semis. Tracking her record post-the grass season’s conclusion, Gauff has suffered a defeat in only 5 matches while winning 34 of her ties.
Owing to her record, she rose to World No. 3 in singles following the Australian Open. Having already been the World No. 1 in doubles, she has now broken the Top-3 in both singles and doubles, another testament to her immense talent.
