Coco Gauff says the US Open title lifted weight off her shoulders owing to constant pressure of winning a Grand Slam

After her hard fought victory at the 2023 US Open, Coco Gauff shared the new feeling that she has immersed in. The new world number 3 is showing her unwavering skills at the Beijing Open. The eyes are all on her to clench a 1000 Master victory after the Grand Slam. But the teen is not under any pressure at all.
Talking in the press conference, Gauff expressed her sentiments, saying, “Having those victories makes me feel more confident now, especially because of how the US Open went.“
She acknowledges the pressure the Masters events bring but Gauff is now better prepared to handle them thanks to her wins at the North American circuits, especially the US Open. Gauff won three hard court events in the past few months at the US: The Cincinnati Masters, The Citi Open and the US Open.
Having a great North American tennis experience, Coco is free of all the stress. In the end she said, “Now it’s like some weight has been lifted off my shoulders, I can play more freely.”
Gauff is set to face world number 6, Maria Sakkari in the quarter-finals of the China Open.
Coco Gauff reaches the Quarter Finals in Beijing
Third-ranked Coco Gauff defeated Russian player Veronika Kudermetova in a grueling match in the third round of the China Open. She made a comeback in the second set, after clenching a victory in a tie breaker in the first set. Ultimately the teen emerged victorious (7-6 (5), 6-2).This win extended the 15 match winning streak of Gauff.

Kudermetova, who led 5-4, 40-0 at the end of the first set, showed her skills. The 26-year-old had four set points but was unable to convert, setting the door for Gauff’s incredible comeback.
In the post match press conference Gauff addressed the difference of weather in China and how she has been able to manage it properly. “I had trouble finding the way I wanted to play in these conditions. I’m really happy with how I’ve been able to troubleshoot and problem-solve. Today I played a good match overall.“
In the end, she also acknowledged the difficulties she would be encountering while facing Sakkari. “I think she’s probably one of the most athletic players on tour, so I think it’s going to be tough,” she said.
