Reigning US Open champion Coco Gauff had a tough outing in her fourth-round match at the 2024 Miami Open, as she was eventually knocked out of the Masters tournament after losing to Caroline Garcia. The 19-year-old could not make it big yet again as Garcia took her down in three sets on Monday.

Gauff was disappointed after missing out on yet another opportunity. However, she was mature enough to handle the loss with grace as she has done with all her losses.

Amid her struggles to land a big title ever since her 2023 US Open win and criticism mounting, Gauff was asked about her speech, which she had aimed at her critics. The American ace was asked if she had planned her speech, which has stuck with so many players and athletes. To this, the 19-year-old replied that it was spontaneous from her side.

No, I didn't have anything planned to say afterward. I'm glad that people can relate to what I say. I don't know. It related to me, and I feel like it could relate to a lot of people.

The World No. 3 said that she tries to react in a way that helps her become a better person.

You know, at the end of the day you choose what you're going to -- you can't control what people throw at you with the comments and everything, but you can control what you do with, how you react to it. Yeah, I try to react to it in a way that will make me better.

Notably, it was the fourth consecutive instance when Gauff lost to a lower-ranked player. The 19-year-old lost to Garcia 3-6, 6-1, 2-6 and saw her way out of the Masters tournament. Before this tournament, Gauff was knocked out of the Indian Wells Open after losing to Maria Sakkari in the semifinal.

Gauff had forgettable outings in Dubai and Doha. While she was knocked out of the Dubai Tennis Championships after losing to Anna Kalinskaya in the quarterfinals, the American WTA star lost to Katerina Siniakova in her first match in Doha.
