The American sensation Coco Gauff shuts down the critics who asked her to split with her father from the coaching team after winning her maiden Grand Slam tournament in front of the home crowd. She earned her first Grand Slam title coming back from a set down against the Belarusian World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka. The final score was 2-6, 6-3, 6-2.

After the thrilling and emotional win, Coco Gauf said in a recent interview, “He was the first person I saw. That was the first time I saw my dad cry. At the French Open, he claims he wasn’t crying. But today, I saw it.. I rarely see my mom cry either.. That moment. I’ll never forget that ever. I’m so happy. That man has supported me through so much.

An emotional Gauff continued on how people tried to tear them apart when she knew that her father was the reason why she is playing today, “People always tried to tear us apart, saying he didn’t need to be in my box or he didn’t need to coach me anymore. Little do they know, he’s the reason I won this match.”

The current World No.6 Coco Gauff will move three places up in the WTA rankings to be announced on coming Monday. Even though Aryna Sabalenka lost the final, she will eventually become the World No.1 player for the first time in her career on the next week’s rankings. This means that the Polish star Iga Swiatek will drop down to the number 2 position after a long stint at the top of the rankings.

With the triumph of Coco Gauff in the US Open, all four grand slams this year had four different champions. While Aryna Sabalenka won the Australian Open and Iga Swiatek the French Open, Wimbledon was won by Marketa Vondrousova.

Gauff has now become the first black American since Serena Williams to clinch the US Open. She has now become the poster woman for the whole of United States of America and they believe the best is yet to come from the 19-year-old US Open champion.
