American tennis ace Coco Gauff, who is known for her jovial personality and composure, lost her cool during her third-round match against Karolina Pliskova at the Dubai Tennis Championships. Gauff had a long and heated argument with the chair umpire about an unfair call, and she also demanded that the supervisor be called.
However, her request was denied, and Gauff had to continue with the match. This entire episode gained a lot of traction, with the video of Gauff’s argument with the umpire going viral on the internet.

It soon reached the former players, Rennae Stubbs and Andy Roddick, and like Gauff’s father, they also supported the 19-year-old.
Both of them stood in solidarity with Gauff and shared their views on the incident. Andy Roddick highlighted why the chair umpire was wrong in his decision. The former American tennis ace said that he should have simply called the supervisor to clear things out.
This is an absurd exchange for this umpire. 1. He’s completely wrong 2. He’s lying about being wrong. 3. She must have simply said 10 plus times, I’d like the supervisor. That’s not a judgment call. He simply needed to honor that normal request and call the supervisor. Coco did well here. That’s before her opponent also not acknowledging truth (which she certainly didn’t have to do)Andy Roddick wrote on X.
Rennae Stubbs explains the Coco Gauff situation
Serena Williams‘ former coach, Rennae Stubbs, also shared her views on the incident. Stubbs explained the situation to the fans.

The renowned tennis coach said that while the umpire was right in saying that it was a judgment call and he had all the right to make it, Stubbs supported Gauff in her demand to call the supervisor.
Stubbs further stated that it was rude of the chair umpire to deny Gauff’s request. She then claimed that it was a rare outburst from Gauff, who is usually calm and composed on the court.
The umpire is correct in saying it’s a judgment call & his to make. The other correct thing is Coco has EVERY RIGHT to ask for the supervisor & he should have called her & the supervisor should have then come out to explain that she can’t change the decision. BS from him & rude. Oh and may I add, he was also WRONG! @CocoGauff very rarely loses it like this unless she feels wronged, exhibit A.Rennae Stubbs wrote on X.
Notably, Coco Gauff did not let this entire episode affect her as she beat Pliskova in three sets of 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 in an hour and 54 minutes. With this win, the reigning US Open champion reached the quarterfinals and will face Anna Kalinskaya next.
