A mentally strong Coco Gauff goes through to her career’s first Australian Open semi-finals
Coco Gauff, who has been dominant throughout the season, was not at her best against Marta Kostyuk in the quarter-finals of the Australian Open.
With many service errors and a lack of playing winner shots, the American lagged but forced out a victory to head to her first-ever Australian Open semi-finals. However, the youngster revealed that her reason for the win was her mental strength and believed that she was one of the strongest players out there mentally. Unlike her opponent, Gauff controlled her emotional outbursts, eventually helping her take charge of the match and continue her winning streak.
Furthermore, Gauff also revealed another reason for her winning streak. Unlike other players, Gauff relies on her packed fruits to keep her hydrated. While others use gels and other fancy stuff, the American tends to be a little old-school about it. Heading to the semi-finals, the last-remaining American will face the defending champion Aryna Sabalenka in the semi-finals of the tournament. While Sabalenka looks for a maiden title defense, Gauff will hope to maintain her perfect record at a Grand Slam semi-finals.
