I needed to be tested and I feel like I played well today for the first match in a while. Obviously there are things I can do to improve but I did what I needed to do to win.
The 19-year-old American triumphed over her opponent in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2 that lasted for almost one and a half hours. During the match, the newest Grand Slam winner really had to work hard to secure her first victory of the season to start the year on a good note. Feeling considerately happy with her comfortable win, Coco Gauff stated,
I had a great new year and I'm happy to start this season with a win… Auckland was like my first title in over a year. It kind of set the momentum for the year for me. I’m happy to be back here.
