The weather in Cancun has been wreaking havoc on the WTA Finals 2023, and Coco Gauff‘s umbrella was the latest casualty. The teenager’s match against Jessica Pegula was delayed by an hour due to showers. It was then interrupted twice by rain in the second set. The shifting breezes also misdirected the balls, making it difficult for the players to bring their best to the court.

In one particularly bizarre moment, Gauff’s umbrella literally crumbled in her hands as she was walking off the court following a rain delay. The video of the incident is now viral on social media.

The decider match between Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina was recently suspended because of the rain. To keep warm, they wrapped themselves in white towels.

The anticipated semi-finals between Sabalenka and Swiatek was also halted due to rain. Swiatek led 2-1 at the time, and Sabalenka was serving at 30-all. After nearly two hours, the organizers decided to postpone all competitions until Sunday.
