Coco Gauff made history when she won the 2023 US Open and joined Serena Williams as one of the youngest players to win the prestigious title. Every athlete will have an untold story that made them who they are. In this case, it is a story that revealed the resilience of Coco Gauff and her former coach, Jean-Christophe Faurel.
Faurel disclosed how Coco’s father saved him when he faced constant threats due to the American’s controversial Forehand. “We all know that Coco’s forehand grip is very controversial,” said the coach. Faurel received much harassment because of this and went to see Coco’s father. Jean continued, “He received me and listened to me. At the end, he said, ‘The next one who bothers you with this, you send it to me.’ There were no more problems afterward with this famous forehand shot. I was then able to work on what I deemed good for her.”
Jean coached Coco for a year from 2019 – 2020. His massive experience came in handy to enhance the skills of young talents. Due to the support he received from her parents, Gauff faced no more hate towards her forehand and moved on to achieve milestones. Many fans and critics have pointed out that the forehand of Gauff remains her major weakness. Nevertheless, Gauff remains happy with it and plans on making necessary adjustments to evolve her game to the next level.

Coco Gauff’s father created the base for her tennis career
The youngster created history at the start of this month with the help of her coach, Brad Gilbert. However, many fans wondered about her early days as a tennis player and who coached her. Her father, Corey Gauff, initially coached Coco Gauff. Corey was inspired by Richard Williams and created a good base for her daughter’s road to success.

The 2023 US Open winner rested for the Guadalajara Open, and so did other big names in the WTA. She has also not yet entered the Pan Pacific Open Tennis in Tokyo. However, the champion will likely be playing in the WTA finals. Gauff played in the WTA finals last year but lost in the early rounds in both singles as well as doubles matches. She looks to do well in the upcoming finals with a career-high win behind her.
