American tennis ace and reigning US Open champion Coco Gauff became the highest-paid female athlete of 2023, leaving behind the likes of Iga Swiatek, Emma Raducanu, and Naomi Osaka. As the 19-year-old American won her maiden Grand Slam title this year, her prize money skyrocketed and thus her overall earnings.
Amid these talks of Gauff being the highest-paid athlete, an old video of the American claiming to be ‘debt-free’ has resurfaced on social media. In the video, Gauff is talking about having no debts. She also claims in the video that she never went to college and hence has no debts to pay.
The 19-year-old American teen who earned a whopping $22.7 million in 2023 through prize money and endorsements laughs when someone asks her about paying debts. Gauff says that she is only 19, lives with her parents, and did not go to college and hence has no bills to pay. All this was said during an Instagram live session a few months back.
Is Coco Gauff the true successor to Serena Williams?
While Coco Gauff has a long long way to go before she is counted in the same league as women’s tennis legend Serena Williams, the 19-year-old has started really well. Coco Gauff became one of the youngest Americans to claim the US Open title and now, she has become the highest-paid athlete for 2023.
She has left behind the World No.1 player, Iga Swiatek. Although the highest-paid female athlete has been dominated by tennis players for a decade, Gauff sitting at the top sends a message to the world that she is ready for all the success that will be coming her way.
The 19-year-old claimed her maiden WTA 1000 title in Cincinnati and topped it off with a Grand Slam title at home. Although she could not leave an impact at the 2023 WTA Finals, Coco Gauff has become a household name in women’s tennis. And considering the fact that she draws inspiration from none other than the greatest of all time, the American is expected to do wonders.
Gauff might go on to become one of the best players although it is too early to predict that. Moreover, the 19-year-old has a charm that might make her a role model to many aspiring female athletes soon. So, it would not be wrong to say that Gauff is the true successor to Serena Williams.
