Seeded seventh in Melbourne, the American had a decent shot at the title this time around. However, Jelena Ostapenko proved to be too strong for her, as her journey ended in despair and disappointment.
Coco Gauff could not hold back her tears in the press conference, as she was seemingly upset with the loss. Two-time Grand Slam champion, Victoria Azarenka reserved some high praise for the American teenager. The Belarusian had a successful day at the office, defeating Zhu Lin to reach the last eight in Melbourne.

The 18-year-old is seen as the next big thing in American women’s tennis, and as such, the burden of expectations are pretty high. “Coco is handling herself so mature on and off the court! A lot of pressure and expectations and she is always class,” wrote Azarenka on Twitter.
